Video Furnace's design philosophy provides for a fully distributed and scalable video architecture built upon the MPEG standard. The Video Furnace system is a complete end-to-end solution. It requires no pre-installed player software to the customer's desktop thus creating a homogeneous application for capturing and delivering video to all the desktops of your environment.

Pilot System

The Pilot Configurator is the application that remotely coordinates the activities of the Live Server. This application allows the network administrator to configure and adjust the entire Video Furnace system. It is a thin application that is served to the administrator, thus insuring that the current version is always available. The Pilot application utilizes unicast streaming so as to allow the administrator to be anywhere with connectivity to the operations center.

The Configurator provides the following features:

• Remote Administration with Live Video Preview
• Control the Encode Resolution and Bitrates
• Adjust the quality of the live video
• Add and subtract multicast channels
• Configure various server functions (Live, Playback, etc.)

onGuide System

onGuide is a system that injects data into the inStream player which allows the user to index channel and show information for the available channels that are being multicast. This feature gives each desktop user a complete interactive guide for channel surfing and program searching while still viewing thumbnails of the live video for the channel they have tuned.

One click of a button and you can switch between your interactive guide and your video viewer. The onGuide application is also capable of displaying alerts that can be sent out by the network operations center.

inStream Player

InStream is the highly optimized thin native mode viewer application that is streamed to the client device. By streaming the viewer, it eliminates the need for the user to download, install, and maintain a large media player or otherwise upgrade legacy media player software. The most current and appropriate viewer is always delivered to the client device automatically, whether the device is running Windows, Mac or Linux. This design allows for the flexibility of updating your systems to new functionality without any changes to your enterprises' desktop environments.

The inStream viewer utilizes the onGuide feature for seamless guide viewing and channel surfing. The inStream application is also capable of displaying alerts or messages that can be sent out by the network operations center.
